PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) allocates Rp24.7 billion for construction of new houses and improvement of inadequate housing for low income citizens in West Sumbawa

Jakarta, 18 April 2013 – PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) today (18/4) renewed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of People’s Housing of the Republic of Indonesia and the Regional Government of West Sumbawa Regency (KSB) as a form of the company’s participation in building new houses and improving the quality of inadequate housing for the low income citizens in KSB.

The agreement signing constitutes the realization of the cooperation between the regional government of KSB and PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) in supporting the government’s program in converting inadequate housing to adequate housing in KSB. For this purpose, PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) is committed to handing over Rp24.7 billion in financial assistance to low income citizens.

As planned, the funds will be used to build new houses and improve the quality of inadequate housing in 8 sub-districts in KSB. The funds cover 3883 houses, comprising 3000 units that each will receive Rp5 million in addition to Rp6 million Self-Funded Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) fund from the People’s Housing Ministry respectively for improvement of housing quality which was carried out in 2012 and 883 units that each will receive Rp11 million respectively for construction of new houses (total renovation).

“As part of the KSB community, we are hopeful that the program can be implemented effectively, appropriately, and timely so that all residents in KSB have adequate housing,” said President Director of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT), Martiono Hadianto. He added that the program is one of the community development programs intended to improve the quality of life of the people living around the Batu Hijau mine.

Deputy Minister for People’s Self-Funded Housing, Jamil Ansari, in his speech during the signing of the agreement, said that he would continue calling for large and small companies in Indonesia to channel their CSR funds to support the development of adequate housing. “We are hopeful that West Sumbawa Regency would complete in managing inadequate housing and that other companies in Indonesia can participate and follow PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) in helping accelerate the improvement of the quality of inadequate housing across Indonesia,” he said.

In the meantime, Regent of KSB Dr. KH. Zulkifli Muhadli, SH., MM expected that the people of KSB would make the best use of the assistance funds from the Ministry of People’s Housing and PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) to build the infrastructure, facilities and utility in the 3883 target units. He hopes that the presence of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (PTNNT) mining operations in KSB will be able to improve the quality of life of the people through its social responsibility programs
